What side of the bed do you sleep on?

I have always argued that men are more logical than women. Here is more proof for my argument:

Until I met Pam I had always preferred the left side of the bed. I sleep facing the left and thus do not breathe in anyone's face or get my breathed into. Also there is no banging of knees or a knee in the back as my left knee would be raised to the outside of the bed. BUT NO! Pam sleeps on the left side of the bed, even though when we go anywhere else she sleeps on the right. WHY? Because, in her logic, she has to be close to the bathroom! Yet, she goes to the bathroom once in a blue moon during the night, whereas I am an everynighter (yes I know, too much info).

Imagine if I slept on the left: There would be no clashing of knees, no breath in face, and when I got up to go to the can I would not be colliding with the end of the bed waking Pam up. GREAT IDEA! LOGICAL! BUT NOT GREAT OR LOGICAL ENOUGH!!

A Funny Story

Pam took Sophie to The Bay to get her haircut on Monday. When they arrived at the mall Sophie wanted to go on the alligator (elevator).
"Mommy, mommy, we go on the aligator!"
"Mommy, mommy, we go on the aligator!"
The elevator arrived and Sophie then said
"Sesame Street!" (I always get her to say "Open Sesame" when the elevator arrives).

If you have kids aligator and sesame street will be funny.
If you don't have kids and you did this did not put a smile on your face then you need to get a sense of humour or just trust me that it is funny.

Long time no post...

It seems that I am always too busy to post and by the time I get round to posting most of the interesting stuff that has happened seems not so interesting anymore. Here are some of the hi and lo- lights of the past little while:

I have a herniated disc in my neck which is causing pain down my left arm and shoulder - the pain is still there but is slowly subsiding. Sophie has been sick with a cold and had a temperature. She has gone to daycare today so that I could get some work done. I feel a little guilty as Sophie was not 100% and wanted to stay at home. She had a good morning until her energy ran out and then she got weepy. She is napping right now (thanks for the phone call Tanja).

Pam is going to the Kamloops International Film Festival this weekend. The highlights of the programme are Shut Up and Sing (the Dixie Chicks doc) and Volver (stars Penelope Cruz and I heard may have some nudity - could be worth checking out).

The jam band I belong to is trying out some new songs this week: Steady As She Goes by the Raconteurs and Better Now by Collective Soul.

Another Year Older...none the wiser

I am now 42 years of age. I keep telling myself I am not in a mid-life crisis yet but I think my wife thinks otherwise. I have joined a gym and am now have an 'obsession' with the guitar - Pam's word. If it is a mid-life crisis then it is a healthy one.

My birthday coincided with the SuperBowl. So, we went to our friend's - Bob and Linda - house to watch the game on Bob's new 58" plasma TV in high definition. COOOOOOOOOL!!!!!
The night before we went to Tango's Tapas Bar with Jim and Tanja. That too was cool - a very upbeat place - very urban. We all had a lot of fun having adult time without the kids. J&T got me a book on baseball and how to play guitar like the greats.
Pam and Sophie gave me two great cards and a pile of cash to spend as I wish. On something special. And I think I have figured out what that special thing might be...a bandsaw!!

What's new...Part 2

Here's the latest from the household:

Sophie is taking music lessons - banging on a small drum and singing - and she loves them! After the lessons we go to Tim Horton's for apple juice and timbits with Tanja and Raili. Then off to the library where Sophie chooses some books for the week. This gives time for Pam to sleep in on Saturday mornings.

I am slowly, painfully working to finish the first draft of my thesis. Have to knuckle down the next couple of days.

My guitar lessons are fun and I have enjoyed a jam band on Saturday afternoons. This means that I get together with a couple of other musicians and we play songs under the guidance of a tutor. There is a stage with a full sound system and lighting. This allows us to think that we are playing at MSG or Hammersmith Odeon.

More to follow...

Nose to the grindstone

Thesis, thesis, thesis...
It is nose to the grindstone as I try to get a full draft of my thesis completed and submitted to my advisor by the end of the month. The lit review is coming along nicely though keep coming across new sources. I have to eventually stop with what I have and not get sidetracked by more reading. Then I have to complete the statistical analysis. OK, back to work now.
Cheers

I've got the DOMS and I've got them real bad

Started at the gym this week. Three days a week. Treadmill and abs everyday. Day one, arms - biceps, triceps. Day two, legs lower back. Day three, pecs, lats and the rest.
Day one OUCH!! Bicep curls killed me! What a wimp! I have delayed onset muscle soreness - and f*#k it hurts. It hurts on the inside of my arm where biceps meet forearm. Ouch!!

Anyway here is the Weekend Update:
I have been practicing my guitar, playing EA Sports Head Coach on my PS2, chasing my daughter around the house, working on contracts, working on my thesis, grocery shopping, visiting with my wife's Uncle Mac and Aunty MaryAnn, watching the Blazers kick some PG Cougar ass, hoping I am doing well in my football playoff pool, and trying to smile often. I am sure there are some things I have forgotten.
They may be good ideas for my next post!!

Mine Goes To Eleven

My major Christmas gift was guitar lessons from Pam. I have just completed my first lesson and I am grinning from ear to ear. This should be very cool. Smoke On The Water and Sweet Dreams. For more info on my guitar playing exploits and my take on guitar playing, players and music see my other blog. Viewer discretion is advised
